Need for Speed: Shift Review

Come back, Need For Speed, is all forgiven. I know we will take you and your shiny wheels in the desert, because you lost the thread. But we love you again ...

Forgive us a little emotional, but with the line (from the heady days Hot Pursuit 2 and Most reach up to the tired and sad ProStreet Wanted Undercover), our relationships with Need for Speed has been a ride of roller coaster of highs and lows were.

No doubt, the creation of the British developer Slightly Mad Studios has revived the series and made it a serious contender. Of course, it helps to move the Need for Speed: saying that last year's King of the Road, illuminating Code Master's Race Driver: Grid, as a benchmark.

Gone are the police. Thus, the illegal street racing which is unwanted, obsessive thoughts with major visual changes (including body kits, vinyls and color schemes can still be optimized) and all attempts to act crazy or a bit part models Glamor screaming at your mission objectives through placement cell phones.

Instead, we had a damn good driving simulator to areas of law: beginning to be bred a lot of cars for motor racing as pandering to the LA treatment, visceral motor noise; punish vehicle damage ticks, and working really only live, the less you trust the driver supports. We would like to admit it is much more realistic than GRID, but without the serious and threatening nature Race Pro or straight-laced features in Forza Motorsport 2

All the problems we had with handling Preview stage has been resolved out, and what is still plenty of feedback without feeling inaccessible hardcore. We still have some questions, but - the manual transfer switch on the LB and RB buttons are a terrible idea (no control customization options, either). And mode of operation requires such precision, it is more an exercise in how easily you can feather the gas instead of the fun, smoke pluming Race Driver madness.

In contrast to the fragmentation career Grid mode (you throw a Demolition Derby with a Formula 3 single-seaters and so on), giving shift much more predictable progression. Work your way through four phases of breeds, from a VW Golf or tired old 1970 Skyline is up to a Bugatti Veyron, McLaren F1 or Pagani Zonda general Need for Speed.
In fact, even with the new direction and serious intentions motorsport very clear that a shift Need For Speed product.

Although developed by EA Black Box, co-(need NFS game for the last ten years) did, it should not be surprising. Although EA has entrusted the driving duties Slightly Mad, the black box on behalf of their distinctive stamp on the case too concentrated.

In addition to the above changes and the glittering showcase sections, it comes in the form of driver profile. Sitting with the devil, the angel of aggression and precision at the shoulders (the two main areas in which they assess your driving skills), you will be rewarded, depending on how you behave behind the wheel. With skill marks overtaking every aspect of running (drafting, drifting, podiums, etc.) and special events Invitational unlocked depending on the style, they act so appealing constant pats on the shoulder. In addition, they can be a good indicator of the ability of an online opponent used. In a short time before everyone has all the gold that is ...

The best part is that even if you strip away bells and whistles racial Case-star collection, award marks Horten, swooshy menus and expensive licensed soundtrack, you're still looking, fine-Renner, hold the handle can head up against some very tough competition . Shift can not apply a criterion to turn 10, Polyphony Digital and Codemasters, damage model may not have taken the best of the genre, and it is not the absolute last word in a realistic driving experience. But it has sparked our love for Need For Speed - which in itself is quite an achievement.
